Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighting rules
Brazilian
Jiu Jitsu requires a respectful and polite manner, especially to the
instructor, but to other students as well. These manners include
properly addressing the instructor and students that are more advanced
than you.
For those participants that have previous martial arts experience and
are simply trying a new avenue, you have an opportunity to test into a
higher belt level, as all beginners of Jiu Jitsu start as white belts.
The testing is tough but if your training and skill level is up to bar,
you may be able to skip the lower colors.
Certain other martial arts disciplines translate to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
than others, though. Aikido or Judo, for instance are closer related to
the technique than Karate or Tae Kwon Do.
Classes for the technique are easy to find at a local gym near you.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is more than just a martial arts class—it teaches
you self-discipline, self confidence, and self-control. Others in and
outside of the class will respect you and you will respect yourself
because it is not intended to get you fighting, but to protect you if
fighting occurs. What do you have to lose?
